FTC Extends Deadline to Comment on Proposed Modifications to COPPA

US-FederalTradeCommission-SealThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will extend until September 24, 2012, the deadline for commenting on additional proposed modifications to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA), which gives parents control over what information websites and online services may collect from children under 13.

On August 1, 2012, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) published a Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comments on proposed modifications to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) with a deadline of September 10, 2012. In response to requests from several organizations, public comments on the Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking will now be accepted until September 24, 2012. Instructions for submitting comments are found in the Notice. Comments can be submitted electronically by clicking here. The Commission vote approving the extension of the comment period was 5-0.
