Business leaders, U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier taking part in Aug. 31 discussion
Parents are invited to a community discussion with business leaders and U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier tonight in Mountain View on how to protect their children's online privacy.
The event is being hosted by Common Sense Media, a national nonprofit focused on media and technology issues concerning families.
It is the first in a series of town hall events that will provide an opportunity for parents to share their concerns directly with industry leaders.
Topics will include the current state of online privacy and the online tracking and profiling of kids, as well as the role of parents, teachers, policymakers and businesses in protecting kids' privacy online and on mobile platforms.
Panelists will include Michelle Dennedy, chief privacy officer at McAfee; Gary Kovacs, CEO of Mozilla; Speier, D-San Mateo; Jim Steyer, CEO and founder of Common Sense Media; and Owen Tripp, chief operating officer at Reputation.com.
The event will be held at the Computer History Museum at 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
