An update to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) expands the umbrella of items businesses must secure and keep private for children under the age of 13.

The United States government wanted these changes because children’s online interactions have been expanding. Kids today engage in online media at earlier ages through social networks, mobile apps and gaming. Consequently, corporations now have greater access to children’s personal information.
